In its ninth season, “Taste of Croatia” golf tournament has become the trademark theme which aims to deliver fun and unique opportunity to network, play a round of golf and taste Croatian products available in Ontario through the local distributors and delicatessen.
The 2011 Croatian-Canadian Chamber of Commerce’s Golf tournament was played on September 16 at Glean Eagle Golf Club in Bolton. Chamber’s golfers like to return to the Glen Eagle facilities where they are always presented with great service and fabulous food.
“The tournament was a huge success thanks to the combined efforts of the Chamber Golf Committee, our Chamber manager, our volunteers, the manager and staff of Glen Eagle Golf Course, and our faithful members who continue to support the Chamber,” said Joe Draganjac, the Chamber Director and driving force of the event, which was sold out weeks in advanced, attracting over 140 players and even more guests at the dinner.
Blessed with the great weather, golfers teed off at 1 PM after the delicious lunch which featured risotto with Istrian truffles sponsored by Dalma Catering and White Truffles fine foods, an importer of authentic white truffle from Croatian region of Istria. One of the features of the tournaments were pig and lamb roast on the spit on hole one, along with several specialty holes which offered golfers great selection of traditional Croatian cuisine and signature drinks. The refreshments included: Ozujsko beer, Pelinkovac, Croatian Grappa and Croatian vines which were recently introduced to Canadian market by the distributer Mirus wines and spirits.
There were other promotional activity at the golf field presented to golfers such was advertising of Croatian tourism from Kuna Turs owner, who eloquently guided golfers to some of the landmark Croatian tourist destinations. In addition, a special guest, marketing and enrollment manager international Lana Buzuk from American Collage of Management and Technology with two university sites in Dubrovnik and Zagreb, was promoting their educational services on hole in one. Each golfer received a golf ball with the ACMT logo. ACMT is the only educational institution in Croatia granting two diplomas, an American degree RIT (Rochester Institution of Technology) and a Croatian degree from ACMT. Finally, Mr. Frank Jankac, showcased the Croatian Canadian Internment Project which raises funds to further historical research and reveals the truth behind the interment operations back in the First World War.
Among the dinner attendees were Honorable representatives, Ambassador of Republic of Croatia Veselko Grubisic, and Consul General Ljubinko Matesic. The evening concluded with the sounds of tramburica by Frajeri and tournament’s raffle prizes donated from Chamber’s sponsors, with this year main prize, a scooter.
All golfers received a great registration gift packed with a range of products from Croatia available to Canadian market thanks to Eurotrade Import-Export Inc, which is an exclusive importer of a wide range of European fine food products, along with two bottles of Croatian wines from Mirus wines.
