San Ramon, CA – Get ready to rock for a great cause! One of the world's hottest new musical acts the 2CELLOS has committed to headline a charity benefit concert for the Croatian Scholarship Fund (CSF). The benefit concert featuring the 2CELLOS will be held on Sunday, October 14, 2012 at the historic Fox Theatre located in Redwood City, California. Net proceeds of the concert will support the continuing mission of CSF.
About the 2CELLOS
The meteoric success of 2CELLOS started when former cello rivals Luka Sulic and Stjepan Hauser decided to join forces. In January 2011, they uploaded a unique cello version of “Smooth Criminal” by Michael Jackson onto YouTube. Within just a few weeks, their video became a huge viral sensation, receiving over 5 million views. This led to a record deal with SONY MASTERWORKS and an invitation to join Elton John on his worldwide tour. The duo has appeared on National TV shows such as The Tonight Show With Jay Leno, The Ellen DeGeneres Show (twice in 6 months!), Access Hollywood and Huckabee. On January 31st, they appeared as the special musical guests on Fox’s hit TV series GLEE where they performed “Smooth Criminal” in the Michael Jackson tribute episode. This was the first time that an instrumental duo had performed on the show in this coveted guest spot.
About the Croatian Scholarship Fund
The Croatian Scholarship Fund was established in late 1989 in the San Francisco Bay Area by a group of Croatian Americans for the purpose of providing university scholarships for Croatian students who could not otherwise afford a higher education. In 1991, as a direct result of the war and devastation in Croatia, CSF and its Board of Directors became deeply concerned about the severe impact this war would have on future generations as the country began to rebuild. The sole purpose of CSF is to provide financial scholarship aid to Croatian university students living in Croatia and Bosnia-Hercegovina to attend universities in Croatia and BH. CSF’s mission is to raise funds in order to provide scholarships to help educate young, bright and financially needy Croatian men and women who will someday become future leaders in science and medicine, agriculture, transportation, technology, economics, law, engineering, political science, education, and other academic fields.
CSF has provided financial assistance to hundreds of students through its scholarship program. Currently more than 45 students are enrolled in the program receiving a four-year college scholarship to attend university in Croatia.
