CHICAGO - On August 3, 2011, the representatives of ADRIA Croatian Soccer Club paid a visit to the Croatian Consulate in Chicago. Mr. Ante Lončar, Manager, Mr. Siniša Alebić, Coach and former member of the Croatian National Soccer Team and Mr. Marko B. Lončar, Assistant Manager, informed Croatian Consul General in Chicago Dr. Jelena Grčić Polić about the recent great success of their Club.
In the finals of this year's United States National Soccer Cup that took place in Kentucky on July 17, 2011, ADRIA defeated the Californian team PSA 3:2. Chicago's ADRIA thereby won the championship for the first time in history of the US National Soccer Cup that has been played without interruption since 1923. Only one other Croatian team in the US managed to accomplish such a feat: CROATIA from Seattle in 1982.
More than 500 teams from 14 regions -- including from the ADRIA's Midwest 10 team strong Region 2 -- took part in this year's amateur soccer competition in the US.
Croatian soccer club ADRIA was founded on 17 June 1959 in Chicago. The first President was Mr. Jakov Šola; from 1978 onwards ADRIA has been led successfully by Mr. Marko Lončar. From the Club's rich history, it is worth mentioning that even the famous Eusebio wore ADRIA's jersey.
